Night of Appreciation was a wrestling shows held by Ring of Honor. It took place on April 27, 2002 at the Murphy Recreational Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The show was held in honor of Eddy Guerrero, who was making his second and final appearance before returning to World Wrestling Entertainment.

  • The Christopher Street Connection go outside and try to greet the crowds, telling them that Da Hit Squad may be the hardest hitting tag team, but they are the hardest kissing tag team. Da Hit Squad ran out and chased them away, then began to warm up the crowd.
  • Ring announcer Stephen DeAngelis came out and began to announce the card for the show, but was interrupted by Da Hit Squad. After clearing DeAngelis from the ring, Da Hit Squad called out the Christopher Street Connection. As Buff E and Mace made their way around ringside, they were jumped by Da Hit Squad. During the brawl, Allison Danger came out to the ring and that it was going to be a three-way match between Da Hit Squad, the Christopher Street Connection and Prince Nana and servant. Elax and Simply Luscious both came out with Nana and both competed in the match, until Nana ultimately chose Luscious.
  • Da Hit Squad (Mafia & Monsta Mack) defeated the Christopher Street Connection (Buff E & Mace w/ Allison Danger) and Prince Nana & Simply Luscious (w/Elax) (5:19)
    • For the entire match, the Christopher Street Connection and Nana & Elax worked together as a team, making it a four-on-two match. After Da Hit Squad began to dominate the match, Nana walked out on the match. Mafia pinned Luscious after a Burning Hammer.
    • After the match, Monsta Mack hit a back senton on Elax through a table.
  • In a backstage interview, Jay Briscoe starts a promo about his match tonight with Tony Mamaluke, but Mark interrupts him reminding him he lost two matches in a row in ROH. Jay told him to shut up because he hasn’t even had a match yet, and walked off.
  • Jay Briscoe (w/Mark Briscoe) defeated Tony Mamaluke (7:22)
    • Jay pinned Mamaluke after a J-Driller.
    • Backstage after the match, the Briscoes’ parents congratulated Jay on his match, but Mark told him he almost lost. Mark’s father told him to stop trying to ruin Jay’s moment. Meanwhile, James Maritato (formerly Little Guido in Extreme Championship Wrestling) yelled at Mamaluke to drop the comedy act and get serious. Mamaluke told him that he was the comedy because he knows who he is. Maritato told Mamaluke that if he’s going to be a joke he’s going to do it without him.
  • Divine Storm (Chris Divine & Quiet Storm) defeated Christian York & Joey Matthews (8:43)
    • Storm forced Matthews to a leg submission.
  • James Maritato defeated Xavier and Scoot Andrews (6:26)
    • Maritato forced Xavier to submit to a Fujiwar Armbar.
  • Low Ki defeated AJ Styles (18:14)
    • Low Ki pinned Styles with a small package. Styles appeared to kick out at two, causing the fans to chant “Bullshit!” at the referee.
  • In a backstage interview, Christopher Daniels cuts a promo saying tonight is the first night ROH is “doing something right”. Daniels talks about how Donovan Morgan is the first opponent who is worthy enough to face him, because he too is another California wrestler who competes all over and has won the ECWA Super 8 Tournament. Daniels says that once he defeats Morgan, he will prove once and for all that he is the top wrestler in Ring of Honor.
  • The Carnage Crew (HC Loc & Tony DeVito) defeated The Ring Crew Express (Dunn & Marcos) (3:13)
    • DeVito pinned Marcos.
    • After the match, The Carnage Crew attacked Dunn and Marcos with hubcaps they stole off of Boogaloo’s car.
  • Donovan Morgan defeated Christopher Daniels (13:13)
    • Morgan pinned Daniels.
    • After the match, Daniels told Morgan the reason he wasn’t going to shake his hand wasn’t because he didn’t respect Morgan, but because the Code of Honor is a farce. The two then formed a partnership.
  • Spanky defeated American Dragon, John Hope, Michael Shane and Paul London in a Gauntlet Match
    • London pinned Hope after a Shooting Star Press.
      • This match was not included on the DVD release and only clips of it are shown.
    • Shane pinned London after a Picture Perfect Elbow Drop. (3:41)
    • Spanky pinned Shane after Sliced Bread #2. (10:07)
    • Spanky pinned Dragon after Sliced Bread #2. (13:41)
    • After the match, Spanky announces he just proved his is the top graduate of the Shawn Michaels Texas Wrestling Academy, he is “throwing his name into hat” of the Road to the Title tournament. Spanky then asks Dragon if he has something he wants to say to “The Showstopper”. Dragon tells Spanky that he may have won the match, but it was the first time he had ever done so on a major show. Dragon then enters himself into the title tournament. Christopher Daniels comes out and tells the two they shouldn’t even be talking about the tournament, because they aren’t even in the same league as him. He then says he is not going to nominate himself for anything, because it is a given that he is entered into the tournament and will become the first ROH Champion. Scoot Andrews comes out and takes the microphone away from Daniels, and begins to announce he is also going to enter the tournament. Daniels grabs the microphone back before he could finish, and tells Andrews to never take a mic out of his hands, because compared to him Andrews is a nobody, and doesn’t deserve to be in the tournament let alone in the same ring as him. Andrews grabs the microphone back and challenges him to face him in the first round of the tournament. Daniels tries to back out of the match, but is interrupted by Xavier, who enters himself into the tournament, followed by Jay Briscoe, who does the same. Prince Nana comes out and enters into the tournament, before beginning to insult the fans, until Low Ki comes down and gets in his face. Nana slaps Low Ki and begins to insult him, but when he tried to slap him again, Ki blocks it and knocks him out with and elbow to the face. Low Ki then puts over the rest of the wrestlers in the ring, with the exception Spanky who he merely laughs at, before turning his attention to Christopher Daniels. Low Ki says the ROH Champions is about respect, integrity and honor, qualities that Daniels does not have, and that he will be dead before he sees Daniels as champion.
  • Eddy Guerrero & The Amazing Red defeated The SAT (Jose & Joel Maximo) (13:11)
    • The majority of the locker room came out to watch the match and pay their respect to Guerrero. Guerrero pinned Jose after a Splash Mountain Powerbomb.
    • After the match, Brian XL went to the ring and says that if anyone got to face Eddy Guerrero it should have been him. Guerrero takes the microphone and says that XL must be that “Little Bow Wow guy” everyone is talking about, and says that The SAT got the match because they asked for it, and if he wants of piece of him he’s right there. XL attacks him, starting a quick impromptu match.
  • Eddy Guerrero defeated Brian XL
    • Five seconds into the match, Guerrero gave XL a powerbomb followed by a Brianbuster, before pinning him with a Frog Splash.
    • The match is not recognized by ROH on their official results.
    • After the match, Guerrero gave a promo, talking about finding God and that and the support of his follow wrestlers helped him turn his life around. He then talk about Philadelphia, and how when he began wrestling in the United States it was in Extreme Championship Wrestling in Philadelphia. He then thanked Rob Feinstein, Ring of Honor and it's fans for supporting him.
  • In the locker room after the show, Low Ki and American Dragon confront Spanky about not going out and paying respect to Eddy Guerrero. Christopher Daniels and Donovan Morgan walk in and ask the two if they are “done marking out for Eddy Guerrero”. The four begin brawling until several wrestlers rush in to hold back Low Ki and Dragon as Daniels, Morgan and Spanky ran out.

[edit] Importance of the show

While Night of Appreciation was the final appearance of Eddy Guerrero, the show featured the debut of several Ring of Honor regulars: AJ Styles, The Carnage Crew, The Ring Crew Express, Donovan Morgan and Tony Mamaluke.
