[edit] Career
[edit] Early career
Jerry Lynn began his career in 1988, competing for various independent promotions in Minnesota. In 1995, he began competing for World Championship Wrestling under the name Mr. JL. After being released from WCW in 1997, Lynn made his way to Extreme Championship Wrestling. He was involved in several feuds during his time in ECW, the most famous being his rivalry with "The Whole F'n Show" Rob Van Dam, which began in 1999. During his series of matches against Van Dam, fans began referring to Lynn as "The New F'n Show". Lynn and Van Dams rivalry would continue until ECW closed in 2001, with the two being in the main event of ECW's final pay-per-view.
After ECW closed, Lynn, and several other ECW wrestlers, made their way to World Wrestling Entertainment (then known as the World Wrestling Federation). Lynn would win the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship in his debut match, and would hold it for a month before losing it to Jeff Hardy. Soon after, Lynn was released from his contract. Following his departure, Lynn would compete for Total Nonstop Action. Known as the founding father of the X Division, Lynn would spend his time wrestling several up-and-coming young talent in TNA, including AJ Styles, Low Ki and Amazing Red. He would be an active competitor in TNA until February 2004, when he suffered a severe should injury in a match against Juventud Guerrera. From then on, he worked mainly as a road agent, helping to book matches for the X Division and coaching the younger wrestlers, and would only occasionally wrestle. Lynn would leave TNA in August 2007 after asking for his release.
[edit] Ring of Honor
Jerry Lynn made his Ring of Honor debut at Road to the Title on June 22, 2002, losing to AJ Styles in the first round of the Road to the Title tournament. He next appearance would come almost two years later in January 2004, when he teamed with Samoa Joe at The Last Stand to challenge the Briscoe Brothers for the ROH Tag Team Championship. Shortly after, it was announced that Lynn would be appearing for frequently in ROH. However, shortly after, ROH's owner Rob Feinstein was caught in internet sting designed to catch sexual predators. On March 13 at At Our Best, Lynn defeated Nigel McGuinness in a singles match. Not long after, Total Nonstop Action ended their relationship with Ring of Honor and pulled their contracted wrestlers, including Lynn, from all ROH events.
Following his release from TNA in 2007, Lynn began to compete in independent promotions again. He made his return to Ring of Honor at Vendetta II on June 28, 2008, competing in singles match against Nigel McGuinness, now the ROH World Champion. Despite losing, the fans gave Lynn a standing ovation, chanting "You've still got it!" Lynn would return to ROH three months later at the pay-per-view taping for Driven 2008, losing to Chris Hero of Sweet n' Sour Inc. Lynn would be successful the following night, defeating Kenny King of The YRR. Shortly there after, it was announced the Jerry Lynn would be competing for Ring of Honor on a regular basis.
Lynn first few matches as a regular part of the ROH roster would be met with mixed results, with him defeating Claudio Castagnoli at Return of the 187 on October 24, only to lose to Tyler Black of The Age of the Fall the next night. At ROH's double-shot in Canada two weeks later, Lynn would again win the first night, this time against Delirious, and lose the second night to Sweet n' Sour Inc.'s Davey Richards. Despite his win-lose record, Lynn impressed ROH officials enough to grant him a shot at the ROH World Championship, which will take place at ROH's debut in Nashville, Tennessee on December 6.
[edit] Full Impact Pro
Jerry Lynn would make his debut in Full Impact Pro at In Full Force 2008 on May 30, competing for the FIP World Heavyweight Championship against Austin Aries and champion Roderick Strong. He would appear again the next night, taking on Aries in a singles match.
